Eighteen rooms inside a restored family compound in central Ubud, five minutes from the palace on foot.

Four generations, one address.

The compound was built by the family that still runs it. The pavilions, the gate and the garden shrine are original; the plumbing, thankfully, is not.

Rooms are furnished with pieces made in the village — carved teak, hand-woven cotton, and lamps turned by a neighbour.

Heritage

The gate is older than the hotel.

The candi bentar at the entrance dates to the 1890s and was moved stone by stone when the road was widened in 1978.

Guests are welcome at the family's ceremonies; sarongs are kept by the door for anyone who would like to attend.

One kitchen, one menu, one sitting.

Dinner is served at seven in the main pavilion — whatever the market gave up that morning, cooked by the family. Guests and neighbours share the same table.
